What are some techniques to help an individual remain in control of their heart beat during times of increased stress?
It’s natural for the heart beat to raise when stress increases, when in fear, or when in times of extreme situations.
Obviously your heart beat is going to go up with strenuous activities, but under different circumstances, what are some techniques to help remain in control of it?

diet.
I think that would be dangerous–taking you literally.
You shouldn't try to control you heart beat but rather stress.
If you manage the stress better, you heart will remain comparatively calm.
Stress comes from how re interpret reality–things as we see, perceive them. Learn to interpret them, whenever appropriate, as less threatening (which is likely closer to the truth anyway).
A man went into his dimly-lit mountain cabin room and saw his belt lying curled on his bed. It looked like a snake to him. He froze, his heart was beating rapidly, he began sweating in the cool room. Then, he cautiously looked closer and realized it was only his belt, and all his fear-symptoms went away.
Perception. Stress comes not from the things we fear but from how we interpret those things, how we think about them. Often, just thinking them through realistically and RE-interpreting them is enough to bring relief.
" The best teachings is through experiencing the situation " Well from what I've experienced, gained knowledge from and understood, please read my answer;
First off the root of being shy, nervous, anxiety is fear.
When the mind is afraid then the body will get the message, so then your body will turn tensed and rigid.
Okay to start off with building self-confidence in yourself and to be around people see this;
We are all human and we ALL have good and bad qualities. There is no existing human that is perfect. We are all ordinary and equal. Our skin holds our flesh and bones together, we have a brain, heart, liver, lung, ears, nose, mouth. What makes us different from each other really? In reality we are all equal and the same.
Now when your in a fearful situation such as being around people, well I want you to imagine every negative or positive outcome that may happen to you when your in a fearful situation and just "let it happen" instead of "preventing" it. When you try to prevent these outcomes made up in your mind, you create a barrier of fear, which makes your body turn tensed and rigid. Think about this though has fear ever benefited you in your whole life? Or has it instead made your situation worse by making your body turn tensed and rigid?
You are human, you are certainly going to die in this lifetime and so is everyone else. So "try" to "enjoy" every moment you can living, instead of living in "fear". You can possibly die next week, next month or maybe in the next 2 years.
What also makes my heart beat fast sometimes is when I haven't had a sexual release for a while, you would kind of know this when almost every women is turning you on, so yea I just do what I have to do and then it's gone lol.
